Beautiful craftsmanship at the artisans workplace
The artisans workplace is in effect a cul-de-sac where a number of artists have their 'studio'. Most often they use the space to display their work or to safely store it. The actual work is done is a shared space outside the studios, underneath the trees.

In the cul-de-sac you will find mostly woodcarvings. Every now and then someone will make a painting. In addition there are a few more workplaces to visit such as the furniture maker, the garage, the smithy and the fishnet-maker. During your holidays is a visit to the shipyard in Kafountine worthwhile. Here are the famous piroques directly built from the trees. The piroques are the boats that the fishermen in the Casamance use for sea going.At the shipyard you can watch the entire process, from tree to boat. Many of the operations are still done by hand. Kafountine is a neighbouring village at a distance of about 10 kilometers from Abene.
