Another way of holidaying and making a sustainable contribution at the same time.

Maye Meye is a local expression in the Wolof language. It means that every person has something to offer to the other without even being aware of it. This could be knowledge, good times, financial support or anything you can imagine.

Special sustainable travel concept

Our goal is to use the profit from the guesthouse to support running or new projects in the village of Abene. In addition we will offer individuals or families micro credits to either start, support or extend their businesses. In special cases we will consider micro financing for projects in Abene and the territory surrounding it.

By spending your holidays at our hotel you automatically contribute. And still we are able to offer you a low-priced stay and an extensive activity programme to choose from.

We believe this makes our relaxing and adventurous holiday offer a special concept from which both you and the local population benefits.

Maye Meye foundation

To officially arrange everything, we started the Maye Meye foundation. Donations to the foundation will initially be spent on rebuilding the houses in Abene. Look under donations for more info about this special project and what we have accomplished so far.

Recognised charity

In The Netherlands our foundation has successfully passed the test to gain the so-called ANBI-status.

This official recognition for 'institutions for general benefit' means that tax-payers in the European Union as well as in other Dutch overseas territories can deduct donations made to foundations such as ours from their threshold income when it amounts to a minimum of 1% thereof, thus giving them a tax-benefit.

To read more about ANBI-status, check the brief explanation on this wikipedia page.
