Travel well prepared to fully enjoy your holiday


The experienced traveler will confirm this: preparation is everything, in particular for intercontinental travelling.
Here’s a few tips if you’re less experienced.

Flight

You will fly to Banjul in the Gambia. Banjul is the airport nearest to Abéné from where you will take a taxi cab to Abene.

You will need a passport that is valid for at least 6 months after the planned return trip. You won’t need any visa. Senegal does ask upon arrival for a certificate of vaccination for yellow fever and cholera.

Health

It’s important to check with the appropriate health agency before you travel to Senegal, for the necessary vaccinations as well as other issues that are important to your health in Senegal. We have listed some handy websites that you may want to visit.

Many insurance companies will pay for vaccinations and malaria tablets, check with your insurance in advance.

Abéné has a small clinic and drugstore. The town of Kafountine (15 kilometers) has a hospital.

Currency

The local currency is CFA – céfa. Officially it is referred to as BCEAO Franc (Banque Centrale des États de l'Afrique de l'Ouest) and often abbreviated as XOF.

One cfa is about € 0,0015.
One euro will buy you about 650 cfa. 1000 cfa is about €1,50. See the converter to the right to calculate CFA versus other currencies.

The closest ATM is in the city of Bignona at about 90 kilometers (closed on Saturdays and Sundays).

Because of this distance we advise you to bring enough cash. In several stores in Abene you can exchange your euros for cfa.
