If you're interested in education, a visit to the primary school is worth your while.
Not mandatory
Unlike in many European countries school is not mandatory in Senegal. Although school itself is free of charge, many families still can't afford to buy pens, papers, books and the like.Limited resources
The 'austere' classrooms, the materials and the large number of students per class are impossible to work with from our perspective. The educational system is ancient in our eyes and exists mostly of writing and learning things by repetition.Whether or not the child understands what it's being taught is really immaterial, as long as it can reproduce it. Unfortunately only 60 % of the children go to school for a few years.
